Mission Statement

Challenge Alaska improves the lives of people living with disabilities, their families, and the community through adaptive sports, therapeutic recreation, and education.

 

Major Fundraising Areas:

- Adaptive Ski & Snowboard School: This school teaches Alaskans living with disabilities to ski and snowboard. The school is in Girdwood and operates from November to April for all Alaskans living with disabilities.
- ParaSport: Programs for people with physical disabilities. Programs include: adaptive rock climbing, adaptive skiing & snowboarding, ASD after school sports, chair yoga, goalball, hiking, nordic skiing, para archery, para cycling, para swimming, pickleball, Summer Splash, track & running, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair lacrosse and wheelchair tennis.
- Raven: Programs that serve people living with developmental disabilities which include. These programs include archery, book club, camping & backpacking, fishing trips, hiking, hockey, ice fishing, Nordic skiing, recreational biking, alpine skiing & snowboarding, Summer Splash, and water sports.
- Warrior: Programs for Veterans with Disabilities which include: 2 hockey teams, alpine skiing & snowboarding, cycling groups, nordic skiing, and biathlon. Veterans with disabilities are also welcome to join all of our other programs, but Warriors programs are exclusively for our veterans.
- Capital Improvements: The Challenge Alaska Keil Center for Adaptive Sports and Therapeutic Recreation was constructed in 1994. Since then, it has been the hub for adaptive sports and recreational opportunities for children and adults living with disabilities. Challenge operates a ski and snowboard school from this facility, as well as mountain biking, summer camps, and many other programs. The purpose of this project is to make essential capital improvements to the facility, including accessibility upgrades; expanded program space; code and safety improvements; and general facility renovations. These improvements are vital to ensuring the health and safety of the participants, staff, and volunteers.
