Margaret’s Story

Margaret, our daughter was kicked in the head while working as a nurse in November 2018.  Unfortunately, she was not treated immediately and was unaware of the severity.  Her first year was a continuous struggle to get proper medical care and to be heard by the medical community.  Finally by the next summer, Dr. Amy had fitted her with special glasses which was the first hopefully experience since    the accident.

Since finding a neurologist in Portsmouth the fall of 2019, we have continued to build a team of caring medical professionals.  Headaches, fatigue, nausea, eye strain, and sleep issues are still part of her daily life but common with Post Concussion Syndrome.  She continues to see her medical team regularly.  Progress is slow but Margaret is improving.  Her latest accomplishment is volunteering two hours a week at an animal shelter near her house.  Since three therapy cats at her house is the limit, she needs to go elsewhere for more cats and even kittens.

Like so many others with a brain injury, you look fine but you aren’t.

We are thankful for the support we receive from BIANH and are walking to help raise awareness and funds to support other families.  Thank you for your support!

The Brain Injury Association of New Hampshire was founded in 1983 by parents of brain injury children and teens, who came together to help one another and work to assure that needed services and support were available to New Hampshire citizens with brain injury and their family members. Today we remain a grassroots organization led by a dedicated teams of parents, caregivers, and professionals. Their mission is to create a better future through brain injury prevention, education, advocacy, and support. Please consider supporting my fundraiser to support the Brain Injury Association of New Hampshire through the 35th annual Walk By The Sea.
