Madison was diagnosed with a rare condition called Miller-Dieker syndrome, caused by a micro deletion on her 17th chromosome. The main characteristic of Miller-Dieker syndrome is lissencephaly which caused seizures, difficulty feeding, and difficulty breathing in Madison’s case. Because of this diagnosis, Madison had a life expectancy of less than 2 years. Her life was full of hospitalizations, surgeries, doctors visits, and home visits.
Our sweet girl passed away on May 8, 2023 due to complications from a cold. Her lungs were not strong enough to sustain the labored breathing caused by the cold.
Casey Cares has been a huge part of our lives since Madison’s diagnosis. They provide uplifting programs and lasting memories for the whole family. Madison was able to participate in several programs and go to many events during her short life due to some wonderful donors. These amazing programs and donations have helped our entire family cope with Madison’s diagnosis and we are extremely thankful that we were able to make so many memories with her.
