22 Mohawk is an amazing organization and their work not only deserves support, but needs it. Their direct action in life changing interventions for warriors enrich their lives and keep self harm from the door. Seeing this work has inspired me to once again ruck up and do 22 miles this veterans day. 22 miles for the 22 veterans a day that end their lives needlessly. I'll be carrying a 22 pound ruck to double the message. This is the only fundraiser I do so I would love to have your support for 22 Mohawks to tend the invisible wounds of war.
I spent 26 years in the Army Reserve, 15 of them as an Army Chaplain. In 2011 I deployed to Iraq as a part of the Medical Task force. I've been retired for 12 years now, and in that time Veterans Day has had a greater and greater pull on me. Each year I've looked for a way to mark the day, a way to mark such a significant portion of my life and work that is now solidly astern of me and at the same time more alive in me than ever.
In 2023 I have the opportunity to hike a part of the Camino de Santiago and connected to the life of pilgrimage and reconnected to the soldier's most common duty; rucking. Rucking for Veterans came along just at that time with the chance to support the 22 Mohawks and their incredible work in preventing Soldier Suicide.
Oh if you're not busy on November 11th come for a walk with me, its only 22 miles....
Friar Tuck (my old radio call sign) out.
