Hello I’m Marissa. I am a teacher at the Brookfield local school district. In June 2023 I was diagnosed with breast cancer… but not just any breast cancer Triple Negative. I went through over 6 months of chemo treatments and double mastectomy surgery on January 30th. I also did rounds of radiation treatment that I will be finishing in April. I still have treatment that will continue into September. Everything has been going well… I believe my success is because of my huge support system, staying active by working out and training at Coopers Cycle and Fitness in Cortland (Check them out!!), and a whole lot of Jesus. My faith has helped me to stay grounded through this competition. I feel so blessed for the amazing group of people who have surrounded me during this time.
I have to give a shout-out to all the amazing healthcare workers and my team that has been my rock during this journey. I call these special people Marissa’s Angels. I have truly met some amazing doctors, nurses, and aides through my journey. <3
I’m inviting everyone to come walk or run with me on this day. I hope to see you there! My team’s colors are lime green and pink in case anyone wants to dress in these colors! I’ll be doing a T-Shirt fundraiser soon. I’d love to see everyone in Militia colors :)
