As I participate in the Peaks to Portland swim, I'm not just tackling the waves – I'm helping the YMCA of Southern Maine make a wave in the lives of our local kids! Donations to my swim go directly towards the Y's vital programs that promote healthy growth and development for all children. The YMCA has been an important part of my life since I was an infant in parent / child classes, through my early teen years on the swim team and as a volunteer assistant swim instructor, then in my later teens when my first job was as a lifeguard / swim instructor / assistant swim team coach. While I had a stable home life, the YMCA offered enrichment; for some children, it’s a place of stability and offers opportunities they would not otherwise have.
