After being born deaf and implanted at 1 years old, at 12 years old I got diagnosed with Usher syndrome. At the time, I didn't think much of my diagnosis. I wasn't interested to learn more about it until I got a little bit older. At 16 years old, I made a decision at attend USHthis camp in 2024 as a camper. We went to Michigan for the week where all the campers and mentor had Usher syndrome. When I first arrived I was very unsure and kept questioning myself why I even came. Little did I know, my life was about to change for the better. As the week went by, I learned so much about my diagnosis and I've never felt so good about myself. I made important bonds that I'll hold onto forever. In 2025, I became a mentor. Being a mentor is nothing but a blessing. I love watching everyone grow and feel so comfortable and ok with their diagnosis. Getting to help change these kids lives gives me nothing but hope and encouragement to keep going. Help me continue this beautiful experience for myself and others. Every little effort goes a long way.
