In June, 2023, Georgetown Prep established our first service / immersion experience with Safe Passage in Guatemala City, Guatemala. This remarkable organization serves a community on the edges of the Guatemala City garbage dump, whose residents have built their homes from trash found in the dump, and who have to pick through the trash looking for items to salvage and recycle in order to survive. The goal of Safe Passage is to help residents of the community envision a life beyond the garbage dump, by providing an exceptional education to children and adolescents and by providing job training for adults. The organization has proven to be incredibly effective over the last few decades, but they really need everyone's support to continue -- because the need is so great.
