2012 was Blues on Barton III. It was our final year as just a “small block” party. We had a band that played on a stage that consisted of 6 sheets of plywood on the grass, we had 4 sponsors, me, my wife, CrossFit Oswego and Shef Brothers Pizza. We raised about $1600 for the family of Eric Lederman. Eric was 12 years old and was tragically killed when he was playing baseball and was hit in the neck by a thrown ball. 2012 was also the year my mom was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an ugly word for an even uglier cancer, the most aggressive and fatal form of brain cancer. My mom was a second grade teacher, two years away from retirement, a retirement in which she planned to spend her days gardening, traveling, and with her 8 wonderful grandchildren. Cancer took all of that from her and she passed 18 months after her diagnosis. It was her illness and her bravery fighting it, that led us to forming a non for profit, and expanding Blues on Barton to what it is today. In honor of my mother, as we have the five prior Blues on Barton, a portion of the proceeds raised will go to the American Brain Tumor Association.
