The Rae of Light Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by Jessica and Matt Ludwig, a family from the Wall Township area of Monmouth County, NJ, in memory of their daughter Jillian Rae Ludwig. Jillian was a talented young musician who tragically lost her life in November 2023 after being struck by a stray bullet while jogging near her college campus. She was only 18 years old.
Mission and Purpose
The mission of the Rae of Light Foundation is to honor the legacy of Jillian Rae Ludwig by providing scholarships and financial assistance for music students and struggling artists, as well as to protect innocent lives from being taken through preventable violence.
Main goals include:
- Providing scholarships for students seeking post-secondary education, helping young people continue their academic and artistic pursuits.
- Supporting music education and aspiring musicians — offering music lessons for under-resourced youth and collecting/distributing musical instruments to schools, churches, and youth groups to help expand access to music opportunities.
- Advocating for public safety and legislative initiatives that aim to prevent senseless violence — part of the foundation’s efforts is to support programs and policies that improve safety in communities.
- Raising funds through donations, sponsorships, and fundraising events held throughout the year.
