Asheville Triathlon Registration will Continue on New Site (Options Below)

To all currently registered Asheville Triathlon participants,

We want to thank you for your initial support of this small, local community triathlon event. We want to let you know that we are doing everything within our power to offer some version of an 'in person' Asheville Triathlon event on July 19th, 2020. We have spent the last few months in training with other endurance event professionals on how to return events safely back to our communities. We are confident that we have the tools and will be able to produce an event in the same time-trial format that meets social distancing and event gathering standards and volume restrictions. Yes, there will be some format changes to the event, but nonetheless we can provide a fun, safe experience to our community.  Due to the Asheville City Pools not opening this summer, we are looking at relocating the event to a location nearby. We are close to having a decision for this new event location to share publicly.  Check out our recent video message regarding the event here

We understand the various training and financial strains that have affected us all over the last few months. Taking those into account, we are offering the following options to all current paid registrants, please select one:

  1. Keep your registration intact for the 2020 event and Re-register for the 2020 Asheville Triathlon for free on our new registration platform. (Please note: While we will plan for an in-person event, the constantly shifting public health mandates may require this event to proceed in a virtual sense. However, we are hopeful and moving forward planning the in person, event experience.)
  2. Defer your registration for FREE, to the 2021 Asheville Triathlon on July 18, 2021.
  3. Defer your registration for FREE, to the 2020 Asheville Off Road Series or 2020 Biltmore Park Turkey Trot.
  4. Donate your registration amount to the iDream Athletes Foundation for use in our support of local endurance athletes in our community.
  5. Receive a refund for your registration. (Note: We cannot refund the convenience fee or refund fees charged by the registration site.)

Please respond by Tuesday, June 30, 2020. If you don't respond before that date, you will automatically get a refund via RunSignUp and be removed from the 2020 Asheville Triathlon event. Refunds will take 4-6 weeks to process back onto the credit card that you used when you registered for the event.

We will re-open the Asheville Triathlon registration next week for limited participation numbers on a new registration platform. Please spread the word to family and friends that may have been waiting for this registration opening to sign-up.

Again, thank you for your support and patience.

Daphne Kirkwood - iDaph Events Small Business Owner and the rest of the iDaph Events Team

Here Are Your Options:

Thanks for staying in the race! Once the decision deadline has come to a close (June 30th at midnight), we'll send you instructions on how to re-register for the 2020 event on our new registration website for free. You can choose to register either for the in-person or brand new virtual options.

If you select this option, we will reach out to you after the decision deadline date (June 30th at midnight) about which of the following races you'd like to defer to. Once you've decided, we'll send you a coupon code which will allow you to register for free.

Thanks for choosing to donate to the iDream Athletes Foundation

The amounts to be gifted are determined on a case-by-case basis through a criteria-selection process.

In addition, we will assist in fueling the growth for local running, cycling and multi-sport champions, teams, clubs, locally owned stores and communities in Western North Carolina by providing resource and financial support when conducting our key activities.

PARKING

All spectators and participants must park at the JBL Soccer Complex parking lots on Azalea road & must be at the parking lot by 7:15 am.

Parking is located a short distance from the start of the race. In past years, participants and spectators have been allowed to park close to the pool on Gashes Creek Road. This year, however, no parking will be permitted in these areas. All participants and spectators are required to wait until the last runner has finished to leave the Soccer parking lots (we expect this to be around 9:00 am). In addition, no parking is allowed at the gravel parking lot by “The River” church on Hwy 81/Swannanoa River road this year. This parking lot produces a hazard for cyclists screaming down the last hill to the transition area.

RACE GUIDELINES

Please be respectful of the community that the event is being held in so we can continue this event for many years!

INDIVIDUAL TIMING: This year individual participants will be using disposable timing chips to be worn around your ankle. These will be in your race packet. Should you lose your timing bracelet and require a new one, you will be charged an additional $10. Guard them with your life!

RELAY TEAM TIMING: If you are on a relay team you will receive one removable timing strap for your team and one bib number. This timing strap will be worn on your ankle and will be passed from each relay person for each leg of the triathlon. This exchange can only happen INSIDE the transition zone. Relay participants should keep their strap on until passing into the transition zone. It is a velcro strap. THE RELAY TEAM ANKLE STRAPS MUST BE RETURNED TO iDAPH EVENTS!! Relay timing chips not returned will cost the participant $10 each. The runner is the only one required to wear the bib number.

RACE NUMBER AND BODY MARKING: You will be issued a run number at packet pick-up this should be worn and visible during the run. You don’t have to wear your number for the swim or the bike portion of the event. You will be body marked on race morning near the covered pavilion.

The square number is your run number and must be displayed on the front of your body during the run segment of the race only. Safety pins will be available at packet pick-up if you don’t have a race number belt.

TRANSITION AREA: The Transition area for registered athletes, no family members are allowed.
There are no pre-numbered or pre-assigned bike racks, you will put your bike on a rack, first come first-serve basis. Eight bikes can fit on each rack.

NEW FOR 2020! SWIM START TIMES: Swim starts will be self-organized by participants on race day according to their estimated swim time. These are the categories you'll select during registration:

  • 0:50 – 1:20 : Super Fast (In contention to win the race and you swim competitively)
  • 1:21 – 1:45 : Fast Enough (Still starting in the first 1/3 of the event)
  • 1:46 – 2:10 : Average Swimmer (Swim well enough and don’t need to stop at the end of each lane)
  • 2:11 – 2:44 : Novice (Still getting used to swimming in a triathlon)
  • 2:45 – 10:00 : Complete beginner (I want to start at the back)

There will also be staff and volunteers on hand to help organize the participant line. All athletes will start by crossing a timing mat and running into the shallow end of the pool. There will be approximately 6 - 8 starters per minute.

SWIM GUIDELINES: Bring your own swim cap!

Swimmers will cross a timing mat, then run into the shallow end of the pool, they will make an almost immediate LEFT down the first lane of the pool. You will flip turn or slide under the pool buoys/lane line to the next lane and go down the lane, flip or go under the lap lane at the other end of the pool and continue this pattern throughout the swim portion of the event. You will only GO ONE DIRECTION in a lane. The lanes are wide enough for passing, so please when swimming stay to the right in your lane unless you are passing. Pass on the LEFT side of the swimmer and then get back into the right side of the lane when you are done passing. Touch the wall at the end, then flip turn or slide under the lane line rope and then proceed to the next lane.
