Description

Looking for a run/walk that inspires you? The Heroes Legacy Trail Run on Saturday, November 4, 2023 will honor two veterans and former students of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with unique, heartbreaking stories: Ashley Guindon and Zachary Michael Capra.

Ashley Guindon was one of Embry-Riddle's first graduates of the Homeland Security program. Ashley was a Marine Corps veteran who was tragically killed in the line of duty on her first day on the job as a Police Officer serving Prince William County, VA. on February 27, 2016.

Zachary Michael Capra, a Navy veteran and student in the Embry-Riddle flight program dreamed of becoming a commercial airline pilot but was tragically killed on April 4, 2018, one month before his graduation. During Zach’s final check ride to obtain his commercial pilot’s license, the small engine plane he was flying crashed after the left wing separated from the aircraft.

Funds raised from the Heroes Legacy run will equally benefit the Ashley Guindon Memorial Scholarship and Zach Capra Memorial Aviation Scholarship at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. These scholarships are awarded to students pursuing a career in homeland security (Guindon) and aviation (Capra) in order to support the dreams of hard-working, compassionate, and goal-oriented young adults like Ashley and Zach.

ROUTE: This trail run is a two-loop course that follows portions of the Embry-Riddle cross-country course, which is one of the most challenging courses in the state of Florida. It is a true cross-country course including all types of terrains, a 150-meter grass hill, mulch trails, and concrete. The two loops add up to a little less than 3 miles, but due to the nature of the course, the total distance may be a little shorter or further depending on the GPS being used. Don't let the terrain intimidate you for the sense of accomplishment when you finish is well worth the effort! Elite runners, first-timers, and walkers are all welcome! Leashed, well-behaved dogs are also permitted.

ENTRY FEES: General Public: $25.00 through October 15; $30 from October 16 - November 3, and $35 on race day.  Current Students (any student): $20 with promo code "ERAUStudent".
