Severe Weather Safety Plan
Race staff monitor local weather and stay in contact with local officials about possible severe weather 48 hours prior to the event and throughout the event day.
Race Cancellation or Delay: Any lighting strike within 8 miles of the event, tornado watch or heavy rain will cause a delayed start of 30 minutes. Lightning strikes within 8 miles during the running portion of the event will cause the course to close down for 30 minutes. Race staff will encourage runners to stop running and find safe shelter away from trees or buildings.
The event will be canceled if one of the following weather conditions exist: tornado warning, severe thunderstorm/lightning
Severe Heat: An event day heat index of 100 degrees or above will cause race staff to more closely monitor runner conditions. All staff are educated on the symptoms of heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Runners exhibiting systems of heat stroke will be forced to stop running and taken to a medical professional onsite. Runners exhibiting systems of heat exhaustion will be encouraged to stop running and given extra fluids to drink, ice packs and cold towels to cool off.
