Is the Hunger Walk & 5K still happening with the current coronavirus pandemic?
Yes! We are still going to host the Hunger Walk & 5K, but we are shifting to a virtual format to keep the community safe. You can register as a virtual walker and then walk with us in spirit on the morning of the event. We plan to distribute t-shirts before event day so participants can still wear their event shirt for the walk.
Should I still use my fundraising page?
Please continue fundraising! We have already seen an increase in food pantry visits and we know that as families lose wages and jobs due to the current crisis our services will be more critical than ever. Donations can be mailed to our office at 3318 92nd St. South Lakewood, WA 98499 or made online.
Who am I helping at the Hunger Walk & 5K Run?
The Hunger Walk & 5K benefits Emergency Food Network (EFN), the only nonprofit food distributor in Pierce County. EFN serves a network of 82 food pantries, meal sites, and shelters located throughout Pierce County. Each month, EFN provides our Partner Programs with more than one million pounds of food, at no cost to them!
Support for the Hunger Walk & 5K will ultimately benefit individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in Pierce County. Our Partner Programs accommodated 1.3 million total client visits in 2019, an average of 114,000 visits each month. Because EFN can distribute 5 meals for just $1, your participation in the Hunger Walk & 5K will provide hundreds of meals to our neighbors in need.
What impact does Emergency Food Network have in Pierce County?
Unfortunately, food insecurity is a problem in every community in America, including Pierce County. One in seven people in Pierce County experience food insecurity at some point throughout the year. Families experiencing food insecurity may have to decide between paying rent and buying food, or an adult may skip a meal so that children can eat. Providing our partner food pantrties with food ensures that when these families visit in need, they can leave with enough food for nine meals.
Who is Associated Ministries?
Associated Ministries (AM) is our co-sponsor for the Hunger Walk & 5K Run. AM was one of the founding members of EFN along with, Nourish Pierce County, Tacoma Rescue Mission, and Salvation Army. For 36 years, Associated Ministries hosted the Hunger Walk to partly benefit EFN. 2017 marked the transition year where Associated Ministries “passed the torch” to Emergency Food Network as the new host of this annual walk and run.
AM works with interfaith communities to create lasting solutions to homelessness.

How can I register as a team and receive the team discount pricing?
We have made team registration easier than ever this year! Simply create or join a team on the second page of registration and your discounted price will automatically be applied. Please note: Teams must be five people or more.
What are the Refund/Transfer Policies?
There are no refunds for walkers though you may transfer your race number to another person by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org before Wednesday, April 29. We are offering $5 refunds to runners since we can no longer offer a chip-timed run. Please email email@example.com for the $5 refund.
Can I use my same RunSignup account login and password from last year?
Yes! You can use the same account as last year to register for this year's event. You will also be able to see your donations and team details from previous events.
I don’t remember my RunSignup login information, can you help?
For privacy purposes, EFN does not have access to your account information. Please go to the RunSignup login page and click “Forgot Password” and click “Send Reset Password Link” to have password instructions sent to your email.
Where can I pick up my t-shirt and race bib?
In an effort to reduce crowd sizes and to promote social distancing, we will not be hosting our typical packet pick-up day. We will share t-shirt distribution details closer to event day.
T-shirt is guaranteed if registered by April 9.
Can I donate to an entire team?
Yes, there is an option to “Donate to a Team” this year.
How do I make a general donation to the event?
If there is no particular fundraiser that you wish to donate to, but you would still like to support the Hunger Walk & 5K, click the “Donate” button at the top of this page.
How can I participate virtually?
We encourage you to walk with your team or team members as feels comfortable to you and appropriately following CDC guidelines. Wear your event t-shirt and walk around your neighborhood, church, local park, or even your back yard. Share your walk on social media and use #efnhungerwalk5K to share your walk! EFN will share photos and videos from virtual walks and our staff will go live on event day as we do our own walk.
