Join New Leash On Life, a 501(c)(3) organization, a no-kill pet adoption and resource center currently in development for Crown Point, Indiana, Saturday, June 6th for our inaugural 5K and 2K Dog Run/Walk! Our event is open to not only families, but their dogs as well! Even if your pooch is more of a couch potato than an athlete, we will have a curated vendor area to explore as well as food vendors, contests, and demonstrations! For families, the thrilling Y Climbing Tower will be open for anyone adventurous at heart.

Our fun run is open to anyone with or without their pets! The course trails through the beautiful YMCA Camp Triangle Hills and will offer plenty of sights (and smells!) for our two-legged and four-legged participants. FAQs

Race information

Can I run/walk with my dog?

Absolutely!  We are running to support pets, pet lovers, and animal charities!  So you can run or walk with or without your LEASHED and healthy dog! We request that leashes are no longer than 6 feet. We will not allow the use retractable leashes as they have been known to cause accidents. We will also have a complimentary wellness exam station prior to the race for any participating dogs. If you have a pet breed that may not be able to handle this level of activity, please consider keeping them at home for this event.

Please set a good example and pick up after your pet. Extra poop bags, as well as trash cans, will be available.

We also request that for the safety of all participants that dogs be walked by individuals over 18 years old.

My dog isn't much for walking/running, can they still come?

Of course! Dogs that are friendly with people of all ages, and with other dogs, are welcome to attend. We do not recommend bringing those that are not fans of crowds, noise, or other dogs. We highly discourage bringing other types of pets (cats, snakes, birds, etc). This tends to be a stressful situation for them, and we do not condone it.

If your dog is in heat, please let them stay at home.

Can I bring my puppy to socialize?

We all love puppies, but for their own safety we ask that any puppies who have not completed all of their vaccines stay at home. There will be plenty of goodies you can bring home to them though!

I don't have a dog. Can I still participate?
Absolutely, dogs are not a requirement! We have plenty of people who choose to leave their pets at home and enjoy the day pet-free. We love seeing all of your pets, but you can join in on all of the fun with or without your pets.

Are bikes, skates, or scooters allowed in the race?
For the safety of all of our participants, we do not permit the use of bikes, skates, or scooters during the event. Strollers and wagons are allowed.

Do I have to register my child?
All participants will need to be registered. As this is a fundraiser for New Leash on Life, think of their registration as a donation to help improve the lives of the homeless animals in our community that so desperately need our support.

Note to Parents: Sometimes the most well-behaved pets can be startled and react in an unexpected manner. Please remind children to be respectful and refrain from petting any dog without the owner's permission.

Event information

Will food and drinks be available for purchase?
Yes, we will have food trucks/vendors during the event.

What happens if it is raining?
This event goes on rain or shine. We ask that you prepare accordingly- nothing like a run in the rain!

About New Leash on Life

Image

Our goal is to build a 16k+ square foot, state-of-the-art, no-kill pet adoption and resource center that will offer not just a safe space for animals but also resources for the people who love them. The shelter will be more than just a building; it will be a valuable resource for the community. It will have everything animals need to thrive: a medical facility for spay/neuter services, indoor/outdoor dog runs, cat community rooms, small animal rooms, outdoor play areas, and more! We also anticipate partnering with The St. Jude House to provide a Safe Haven Area for pets of domestic violence victims. New Leash on Life will be a place where lost, abandoned, and in need animals can get the care they need while waiting for a home to call their own. New Leash on Life will not just serve the animals; it will serve the community as well.
