Cardiac Rehab Honorary Chair- David Knoop
David's heart journey started in 1975 when a routine basketball physical, where it was found that something did not sound right in his heart. He found out that he has a bicuspid aortic valve, but was able to continue without restrictions. in 2004, he had his first surgery and Denver University Hospital. Everything went smoothly until 2013 when he started having frequent atrial fibrillation, an abnomality in the rhythm of the heart, with ventricular tachycardia. That is when he received his first of 3 pacemakers at Banner Health.
In 2025, he was found to be in heart failure and by November of 2025 he was admitted to Anschutz heart transplant facility and put on a heart pump awaitng transplant. On December 17, 2025 at 11pm, we went in for transplant.
One of the best parts of his recovery was being told on Feb 9th, 2026 that he was going to start cardiac rehab at Banner North Colorado Medical Center. At first, he didnt think he was going to be able to complete the 12-week, 3 sessions per week program, but as soon as he started, he fell in the with the exercise physiologists and realized they were there to help him get stronger and better.
"They pushed me and made me want to push myself and gain confidence in myself. They work hard to help people like me get the opportunity to have a better life and be able to enjoy all the blessings that this world has to offer"- David Knoop
