What is Desmond's Heart all about? On March 18, 2017, Desmond Lynn Graydon was working in his place of business when he was shot in a senseless act of violence. Although the first responders and doctors did everything possible to save his life, Desmond succumbed to his wounds on April 4, 2017, after fighting for his life for two weeks. In the wake of this tragic encounter, loving parents, three children, and countless family & friends are left with an eternal void in their hearts that can never be filled. Desmond made an impact in the 33 years that God granted his presence to the world. Desmond’s vitality and creative mind will be forever missed, but his vibrant spirit still lives within those who are left behind. Yet even as we grieve, we understand that our story is not so different from that of many others.  Our fervent desire is to assist and help those who are struggling with the memory of someone who was part of their life but is now forever gone.  In 2018, Desmond's Heart non-profit organization was established by Desmond's father to help provide 'Help for the Hurting' in honor of his only son.

FAQs

Why support this event? The Virtual 5K/10K event hosted by the Georgia chapter of Desmond's Heart expands our mission to provide Help for the Hurting. We, the family of Desmond Lynn Graydon, were devastated by the senseless act of gun violence taking him away from us prematurely. In the process of grieving for his only son, his father chose to serve others who are burdened by grief with no access to support by establishing a non-profit, Desmond's Heart.

Where does the money go? All funds go towards the cost of professional counseling, services beyond counseling, and ministry-driven educational material. Desmond's Heart has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH). Also, Desmond's Heart will award a $1000 Scholarship to a 2024 high school graduate pursuing college in the field of music, Visual Art, or Creative Design. Please visit www.desmondsheart.org for more information.
