Founded in 1998 in memory of our agency co-founder, Walter E. Brandon, this event has served as a platform to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait, along with the importance of getting tested. Reverend Brandon lived with sickle cell disease, which influenced his life’s work. Due to his dedication, love and compassion for adults and children living with the illness, the 5K walk/run was named in his honor.

The Annual Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell 5K Walk/Run will feature a morning kick-off program; bell ringing ceremony  remembering those who have passed away from complications of the disease ; 5K walk/run; wellness pavilion; health screenings; community resources/information; children’s activities; award ceremony for top female/ male runners in each age group; music, entertainment and refreshments. The walk/run is a rain or shine event. Online registration for individuals and teams is available at: 21st Annual Walter E Brandon Sickle Cell 5-K Walk/Run or at www.sicklecelldisorder.com
