Analisa

Analisa's Story
In 2021, Adriana and Patrick welcomed their second daughter, Analisa—a vibrant, sweet, and spirited little chatterbox who quickly became the perfect companion to her big sister, Lucila. Together, they made a joyful, loving family of four.
But in 2023, their world changed.
18-month-old Analisa began limping and sometimes refused to walk. Doctors suspected a fracture, but X-rays revealed nothing. She was placed in a boot, which did not address the root cause. Her limp worsened. Her leg weakened.
After months of confusion and unanswered questions, they turned to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. They met Dr. Misha Balmuri, a compassionate pediatric rheumatologist who gave them what they desperately needed: answers, care, and a team that finally felt like a lifeline.
“For the first time, we felt like we weren’t alone,” Adriana says. “Dr. Balmuri ensured we saw every specialist we needed. She supported not just Analisa, but us — as parents."
Following blood tests and an MRI under anesthesia, they received a diagnosis they never imagined: juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
“I remember holding her hand in the recovery room when we got the news,” Adriana recalls. “I had no idea what that diagnosis meant for our baby.”
What followed was a grueling year—over 120 medical appointments, numerous blood draws, physical therapy sessions and specialist visits—all focused on one thing: helping Analisa walk, play and simply be a child again.
And today, thanks to Dr. Balmuri and her team’s relentless care and support, Analisa is thriving.
But juvenile arthritis is a lifelong condition. It requires constant medical care, emotional strength, and community support. And for many families like ours, the financial and emotional burden is overwhelming.
