Description

Participate virtually in our annual Dr. Mark Lynn & Associates Stampede for VIPS 5K Run/Walk!  This family-friendly event raises funds for Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS) and features a category of race winners specifically celebrating runners who are blind or visually impaired!

Choose to walk or run the 1- or 3-mile lengths anywhere and anytime during the month of September. Set up a fundraiser and create a team or invite friends and family to donate. Teams or individuals can even complete the race at one go or over the course of several days. Participants can also submit their running times, in order to be included in the competition for prizes. Each participant in the race will receive a t-shirt and a brailled medal.

Taking pictures and videos are encouraged! VIPS wants to see how you enjoyed the virtual race, whether alone or with a team of family and friends!

This new virtual option allows participants to protect their health and maintain safety during the pandemic and serves as an alternative for those who are medically fragile. (You don't have to live in Louisville, KY to participate virtually.)

RUNNER/WALKER PACKET PICKUP: September 21-25th, 9am-3pm at the Louisville VIPS office (1906 Goldsmith Lane, Louisville, KY 40218). If needed, email aasamoah@vips.org to arrange a pickup time that works for your schedule.

Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS)

Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Louisville, Kentucky, with a mission to provide educational and intervention services to children with blindness or visual impairment from birth to five years old in Kentucky and Indiana. VIPS has offices in Central Kentucky and Indianapolis, with a main office in Louisville that is attached to a preschool, where these children receive individualized attention and vision-specific education. The services VIPS provides children with blindness or visual impairment include activities that support vision development (e.g. tactile objects, the use of lighting and sound) and teaching life skills (e.g. crossing a street, using a cane, shopping at a grocery store). Specialized settings created at Kids Town Preschool, during home visits or in our other programs set that child up for success in elementary school, as well as provide their parents and families with confidence and tools to advocate for their child. VIPS' services are now virtual due to COVID-19, but early intervention in the life of a visually impaired child will always be critical. In fact, time does not stop for a child with a disability—the sooner they receive a diagnosis, the sooner their families can seek help from VIPS in creating a learning environment conducive to their child’s vision level, in order to aid general development in the child.
