St. Mary's Health Systems proudly invites you to participate in the Seventh Annual St. Mary's Commit to get Fit Challenge walk/run on Saturday, May 2, 2020. Proceeds from the event support the work of St Mary’s Nutrition Center where people come together to collectively imagine and build a just food system and healthy community. This is successfully done by working alongside our neighbors to build community gardens; children and youth programming; cooking programs; access to fresh and affordable foods; by supporting our local farmers; and by advocating for deeper connections between people, place and the land.
St. Mary's is proud to care for the people of Central Maine. The support of our local communities helps us to provide the high quality of care that is essential to our mission of compassionate healing. The health and well-being of our community is at the core of our mission. Fitness is an integral part of building a healthy community, so we will be hosting a 3K walk, 5K, 10K, and 15K runs (along with great activities for the kids!) at our Medical Building in Auburn. The first 100 to register will receive a race shirt. The journey to a healthy life is built on hard work, commitment, and determination. Let St. Mary's be part of your journey! Join us on May 2, 2020!

We believe deeply in the inherent worthiness of each person and work to create caring, safe environments where people can thrive.
St. Mary's Nutrition Center (NC) places value in strengthening community connections, addressing root causes, nurturing a sense of place, and facilitating a deeper commitment to equity across our community. The NC was founded by St. Mary's Health System in Lewiston, Maine in 2006 to promote community health through organizing, advocacy and education. Although the NC was formed in 2006, it houses the Lots to Gardens program, which has provided gardening and food access programming in Lewiston since 1999.
The NC believes that everyone deserves access to healthy food, as a fundamental right. Failing to address this basic need has far reaching impacts, for the individual and the community. The NC intentionally uses food as a tool for community building, leadership and youth development, and neighborhood revitalization. Through our work, we’ve realized that equity in our food system is deeply tied to inequity within our community, and that a whole-person, and whole-community, approach is critical to creating long-term change. By weaving together direct support with education and community change strategies, the NC builds resiliency at an individual, family, and community level.
