PRESQUE ISLE and MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP, ENDLETON, Calif.- Cpl. Dustin J. Libby, 22, died Dec. 6, 2006, in honorable service to his country while stationed in Ar Ramadi, Iraq. He was born Jan. 4, 1984, in Presque Isle, the son of Judson L. Libby and Geni L. Libby. Dustin graduated from Presque Isle High School’s Adult Education Program, Class of 2003. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps, graduating February 2004 with a meritorious promotion to private 1st class. Dustin went on to serve proudly with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Echo Company based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Cpl. Libby’s first stay at Camp Pendleton was short, as he was almost immediately deployed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom, in summer 2004. Dustin returned from his first deployment to Iraq in fall 2004, after which he remained stateside until his second overseas deployment to Okinawa, Japan. During this deployment, he traveled to Hawaii, Okinawa, Japan and participated in joint training with Philippine military. Dustin returned stateside, where he met his fiance in California. Dustin’s last deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom brought him back to Ar Ramadi, where he proudly led a squad of 12 men. Dustin enjoyed outdoor activities, spending time with family and friends, being a Marine and above all else, being in love with his fiance. Dustin is survived by his fiance, Jeannine Gonzalez; his mother, Geni Montpetit; his father, Judson Libby; and his brother, Christopher Libby.

They risk their lives to defend our Nation’s freedom. It is our military heroes who make great sacrifices in order to serve and protect. Some heroes make the Ultimate Sacrifice with their lives.

Marine Corporal Dustin Libby was killed in action on December 6, 2006. This event is to dedicated to carrying on Dustin's legacy.


The Cpl. Dustin Libby Memorial Challenge will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2021 starting at the Mapleton Elementary School.  


The Cpl. Dustin Libby Memorial Challenge features a 5K Run/Walk on farm field and tarred roads.  At the families request, all proceeds will go to the Mapleton Recreation Department. We would be honored to have you participate and celebrate our Home Town Hero.  The first 100 participants are guaranteed an event shirt!
