Experience one of the oldest road runs in North Carolina.  Except for last year due to the pandemic, the event has been held annually since 1979.  Come be part of a running event with a long tradition and enjoy a run or walk on a USATF certified course primarily along streets lined with azaleas and dogwoods.  Despite the safety limitations regarding the close gathering of large groups, participants can enjoy the new and revitalized area formerly the Cornerstone Commons, now called The Hub as well as the further extensions of the Streetscape improvements to Center Street.  Our volunteers will observe safety precautions as necessary to facilitate another excellent event.

The Run for a Child – 42nd Annual Greater Goldsboro Road Run is facilitated by the Sunrise Kiwanis of Goldsboro.  The event is a fundraiser to help support our purpose of assisting the children and youth of our community.  The funds generated from event sponsorships and participants go toward financial support for over 20 local organizations that assist the needy children and youth of Wayne County.

Our 10K run, 5K Run/Walk, and 1-mile Fun Run routes are downtown again this year.  The starting locations for all events will be near The Hub located at the Southeast intersection of Center and Chestnut Streets downtown in Goldsboro NC with staggered starting times beginning at 9:00 AM.

Registration and Pre-Registration:  The Hub, Southeast corner of S. Center Street and W. Chestnut Street downtown Goldsboro.

$15.00 pre-registration/$12.00 each for 2 or more members of same immediate family

Deadline for on-line pre-registration is 11:00 PM, Wed., April 14, 2021.  There will be race-day registration.

Race day pre-registration pickup begins at 7:00 AM

Corporate Series/Team Competition

Teams will consist of 3 to 5 members with the first 3 finishers on each team counting in the scoring.  All team members must first register as an individual and then register as a team.  Team registration will begin race day at 7:30 AM.  First place in each team category will receive a trophy.  Corporate Team categories are: MASTERS (age 40 and over), female, and open.  Non-Corporate Team categories are male and female.  School teams are male and female.

TIMING: Electronic bib timing by Run the East LLC.  All pre-registered entrants can pick up registration packs at check-in the morning of the run.

Race t-shirts are provided to all participants that pre-register.  

Shirt sizes are available in Youth Small, Medium, and Large and Adult Small, Medium, Large, and XL.

Notes: Participant registration packs can also be picked up from 5:30 – 6:00 PM on Friday, April 16th at the downtown Goldsboro Fire Department – garage entrance that faces out to The Hub.  Please let us know if you plan early pick-up.

Safety Guidelines:

  • Smaller starting groups with staggered starting times; participants don’t arrive until their time and leave once they finish.  
  • If a participants wants to walk or run in a certain group with another participant, they should notify the race director (Scott Edwards, 919-580-6498) at least 1 week prior to the race.
  • Face covering required while not running (family, volunteers, and participants).
  • No aid stations (runners to bring their own hydration).
  • Any post-race refreshments will be pre-packaged (runners to pick up).
  • No post-race gatherings or activities.
  • No awards ceremony (awards provided separately after event closed).
