We are celebrating 10 years of the Cardinal Strut with a PARTY and DOUGHNUTS!! Join us for the 10th Annual Cardinal Strut Doughnut 5K Run and Walk being held on February 16th at Holly Tree Elementary School field to benefit Greater Wilmington area families dealing with a Pediatric Cancer Diagnosis. Run, walk, skip or strut your way across our 5K course through the Woodberry Forest neighborhood while enjoying Krispy Kreme doughnut holes at our water stops. KK Doughnuts, hot chocolate and coffee await the 5K finishers at the Strut for Kids After Party.
Doughnut eating is optional! Having a great day is mandatory!
Finishers Medals for all participants!
Custom Race Shirts guaranteed for everyone who registers by Feb. 1, 2019 (Men's, Women's and Youth Size shirts available.) Please note the Women's shirts do run small so we suggest that you order one size larger than you would wear in a traditional t-shirt.
Am I required to eat doughtnuts?
At the start line we will ask that you seed yourself in one of the following categories based on the race day experience you are seeking!
Category 1 - Competitive 5K Runners...I'll eat my doughnuts when I am finished running - I'm here to run fast and shoot for a PR.
Category 2 - Recreational Runner/ Recreational Doughnut Eater - I'm planning to enjoy my doughnuts as I run the 5K.
Category 3- Competitive Doughnut Eater - I'm just here for the doughnuts and planning to walk from one doughnut station to the next!
Do I have to run? Can I walk? We welcome everyone at the Cardinal Strut! Runners, joggers, walkers, skippers, strutters, sidesteppers, etc!
Do I have to eat doughnuts? Doughnut eating is optional! Having fun is mandatory!
T-shirts: T-shirts are only guaranteed for participants who have registered by February 1st. We will have men and women's cut shirts. The women's shirts do run small and we suggest that you order one size larger than you would normally wear in a traditional T-shirt.
Gun start time vs chip time: The race results will contain both a gun start time (the start time of the race) and a chip time (the time from when your timing chip crosses the start mat). Times used for awards and reported to USATF are the GUN START TIMES, which is standard USATF practice. This means that competetive runners should make sure to start as close to the front as possible. Less competitive runners, walkers, and those with strollers should start at the back.
Headphones: While headphones are no longer banned in USATF sanctioned races, they are discouraged. If you choose to wear headphone, you will not be eligible for awards. Please be considerate and safe. You need to be able to hear safety officials, cars, and other participants.
Strollers: Strollers are welcome! Please be considerate if participating with a stroller by being aware of other participants and starting in the back of the group so that you will not be in the way of competitive runners.
Dogs: While we are all DOG owners and DOG lovers we ask that you keep Fido at home on Cardinal Strut day! We are a family friendly event and thus have lots of children who may not be fans of dogs quite yet! So..for the comfort and safety of all of our participants please refrain from bringing your dogs.
Weather: In the event of inclement weather the following procedures will be followed:
The event will be postponed in hopes the inclement weather will pass. If the inclement weather does not pass in time to complete the event safely in the original or modified format, the event will be cancelled.
Every effort will be made to hold this event on time on this date. Should this event be cancelled due to an Act of God or other circumstance beyond the race directors control there will be no refunds, credits, or transfers.
