Description

This is a race that will benefit the Virtua Foundation, which is creating a center for women who have unexpectedly lost a child prior to their due date. It is called "Heaven's Evan" because we are one of these people.

On November 13, 2012, my husband and I experienced a loss that no mother should have to endure. We lost our son, Evan, while I was 24 weeks pregnant. We were crushed. Nothing can prepare a mother for this type of loss, and we certainly were both inconsolable. It seemed as though our world was ending. To make matters worse, I had to wait a full 24 hours before I was able to deliver him. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my entire life. The pain and hurt still stays with me to this day. As time went on, we got pregnant again only to lose this pregnancy 5 weeks into the process. Finally, in May 2013, we discovered that we were lucky enough to be blessed with twins, due in December of that year. Since I had to go through two traumatic experiences with my previous pregnancies, I had to go to see the high risk doctor once a week, right up until the end. There I met Dr. Ron Librizzi, who would help me every week get through the emotional roller coaster that I was about to go on. Towards the end of the pregnancy, Dr. Librizzi and I began discussing ways we could help mothers who have lost babies the way I did, and how there really wasn't anything available to help them cope with the loss. He discussed a foundation he was beginning to put together to help these women, and I asked if there was anything I could do. That was where the idea for Heaven's Evan came to be.

The proceeds of this race will go to this foundation. When a mother loses their child, it can be traumatic. When a mother doesn't even get a chance to hear that baby's laugh, it is worse. Hopefully, the money we raise with this race can begin to help these women in some way.
