Paddle 2 miles
The race begins with a shotgun start from the Waterfront Plaza shore side walking path. Entrants will pass through the starting line and continue paddling under several bridges heading southeast towards Lake Memphremagog’s South Bay. Paddlers will then circle back into “the big lake”. Once entering the main body of Lake Memphremagog paddlers will continue north to the Bluffside Farm shoreline otherwise known as “Indian Point”. Once on shore paddlers will begin the second leg of the challenge in the transition area.
We will have volunteers helping to move your water craft out of the way and into a safe location. Race volunteers will shuttle all kayaks from the transition point back to North Country Hospital where the race will finish.
Run 2.5 miles
Once transitioned from paddling entrants will begin their 2.5 mile run through the beautiful mowed fields of The Bluff Farm now managed by Vermont’s Land Trust. It includes over 129 acres of unbelievable Lake Memphremagog waterfront property. From there runners will continue east on The Bluff Rd. towards North Country Hospital and the breathtaking Lake Memphremagog waterfront bike path. After reaching the second transition point where Lindsey Rd crosses the bike path entrants will gear up for the third leg of the race and begin pedaling.
Bike 12 miles
This is an incredibly scenic bike route in addition to its unique location on the globe - exactly halfway to the North Pole and the Equator, otherwise known as the 45th Latitude - hence the name was born, “The Lat45 Challenge”! When you leave the transition area (helmets mandatory) entrants will again head north through some of the Kingdoms most beautiful rolling hill country. You will continue right up to the U.S./Canadian border station (be sure to turn left or you’ll be in Canada) and you’ll also be crossing the 45th latitude for the first time. You’ll begin pedaling west and in some parts you’ll be just feet from the U.S./Canadian boundary line (it’s pretty cool). At approximately 7 miles you’ll begin heading south again back towards Newport and eventually the finish at North Country Hospital. No crossing the center line and a no drafting rule will be enforced.
Spectators are always welcome and we encourage you to bring friends and family to cheer you on! Sorry no refunds will be available.
