Event Description

LOWVELO / [ low·vel·oh ] / Noun. A combination of the words Lowcountry and velo, the French word for “bike.” A cycling event that brings a dedicated group of riders, volunteers, virtual participants, sponsors and staff members together to raise funds for innovative and lifesaving cancer research at the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center: MUSC Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston.

7 Mile Island Ride

*EASIEST* It’s island time! This is a flat, easy 7-mile ride that will start and finish on Isle of Palms. Enjoy coastal views and one large, loud and fun rest stop along the way that you will be able to visit twice on the ride.

14-Mile Island Ride

*EASY* Our 7-mile Island Ride starts and ends near the Isle of Palms County Park, taking a double loop of the 14-mile route through Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island. This is a great option for novice riders who want a bit more of a challenge.

23-Mile Ride

*DIFFICULT* Enjoy a police escort from the start line at Brittlebank Park as you ride through downtown Charleston. This ride takes you over the Ravenel Bridge and into Mount Pleasant where the police escort ends and the “Rules of the Road” ride begins.

50-Mile Ride

*MORE DIFFICULT* Enjoy a police escort from the start line at Brittlebank Park as you ride through downtown Charleston. The 50-mile group will join the 80-mile riders for the escort in a rolling enclosure. This ride takes you over the Ravenel Bridge and into Mount Pleasant where the police escort ends and the “Rules of the Road” ride begins.

What a ride! LOWVELO24 was our biggest event yet with a record-breaking 1,895 riders, 267 volunteers, and $1,002,000 raised for lifesaving and innovative cancer research at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center!
