I have been with the Toledo Humane Society for seven years now. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to work with animals, and when I landed a position as an Animal Care team member, I knew I had found where I belonged. Over the years, I worked my way up to Supervisor and now serve as the Volunteer and Marketing Coordinator. I feel incredibly lucky to do what I love every day.
In 2022, I lost my dad. It was one of the darkest and most difficult times of my life. But through that grief, one constant source of light was my Daisy Mae.
I adopted Daisy in 2021 after she was cleared from a cruelty case. She was one of five dogs abandoned in a backyard, all in need of medical care. Daisy and her sister arrived at THS with Parvovirus, a life-threatening illness that attacks the gastrointestinal system. Our veterinary team worked tirelessly to save them, and thanks to their dedication, both survived. When I moved into my first home, I took Daisy in as a foster while waiting for my husband to move to the U.S. due to pandemic border restrictions. It was just the two of us, and in that time, she became my heart dog—my best friend.
I am forever grateful to my coworkers and the Toledo Humane Society—not only for providing a workplace I love but for giving me Daisy.
