In April 2023, our family's world forever changed when we became a NICU family. Our journey began with infertility and a subsequent very difficult pregnancy. At 24 weeks, I was admitted to the hospital due to a kidney infection that had triggered preterm labor and dilation, with a goal of keeping the baby in utero as long as possible. Unfortunately, just eight days later, at 25 weeks and 2 days, our tiny miracle, weighing just 2 lb 1.6 oz, entered the world through an emergency c-section. Calvin truly showed us what it meant to be a fighter. From brain bleeds to collapsed lungs, blood transfusions and a bowel perforation he fought through it all. We owe so much to the NICU teams at both Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest and Main Campus who provided exceptional care for our little one. Their expertise, compassion, and dedication were instrumental in our son's journey. Alongside the incredible medical support, the positive thoughts and prayers from hundreds of people around the world, and our son Calvin's own remarkable strength and willpower, we were able to bring him home after 120 days.
