Maverick's Monsters is a team due to Maverick's leukemia diagnosis. He has been a true fighter and completed 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 169 days inpatient in his short little life. I rarely talk about the nightmare of being a cancer mom, and instead try to focus on the positives. I prefer to enjoy all the current moments with my son. Looking towards the future or focusing on the past is often too overwhelming for a cancer mom. Not that time is promised for any of us, but we especially know how quickly our children could be taken away. We know we may not get that high school graduation, wedding, grandchildren, etc. It can be scary, sad, and often times lonely as others don't totally understand your life as it is consumed by the disease and treatments. That's where people like those at Casey Cares come into play. They provide us with normalcy in a world that is anything but normal. We get to laugh, smile, and enjoy our children in the moment at super awesome experiences that may not otherwise be possible. They give us countless and irreplaceable memories with our families that have been separated by the sickness. I can't say enough to ever express my gratitude to them.
