On Wednesday, November 6, 2013, our lives would change forever. We were given the diagnosis that Debbie had Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. Our biggest worry in the world, arguing over where we would celebrate Thanksgiving, was now so insignificant that I can no longer remember the discussion. As cancer spread through her abdominal cavity, we rushed her into debulking and full hysterectomy surgery. These events would kick off what would be four years of an incredible battle by Debbie with more than 12 surgeries, six separate series of chemotherapy (each two to four months long), and visits to world-renowned clinics.

Debbie gave me many life-changing gifts during our years together – we became teenage sweethearts working at Ron’s Roost Restaurant in Cincinnati at the ages of 16 and 17. She gave me two incredible boys who have turned into brilliant young men. She gave me a positive view of life every day – that beautiful smile. She gave me a sense of urgency to make a difference beyond our small insular world. She inspired me to journey onto an Advisory career that would create phenomenal returns personally, professionally, and financially, and, in the end, the push and blessing to keep living my life after she moved on to heaven.
