The Greater Long Island Running Club is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.
OUR MISSION: The Greater Long Island Running Club is committed to promoting running, physical fitness and wellness among a diverse membership regardless of age, experience or running ability. The Club strives to encourage meaningful relationships and a sense of service by promoting volunteerism among its members and community groups at local Club-sponsored running and multi-sport events and by raising money for charitable causes that benefit the Long Island community.
We are Long Island's largest and most active running club, with a membership that spans Nassau and Suffolk Counties... and be.yond! We have a lot to offer every runner and walker! An individual membership is only $30 a year and even if you never use ANY of the benefits (but you will!), that amounts to just $0.08 a day!
With your membership, you are afforded discounts at our local running store partners, Runner's Edge and Sayville-Smithtown Running Company. Runner's Edge even gives you a $15 gift certificate the moment you sign up. That's like saving half your membership dues right there! You will also save $5.00 on all of our shorter distance and smaller events, and $10.00 on brewery runs and our ultramarathons!
The community that we've built is second to none. We host quarterly membership meetings with guest speakers We have Monday Motivation fun runs every single week at 6:30 PM starting from our Clubhouse, and several weekend Fun Runs throughout the year. We have beginner and distance-building running clinics with fantastic coaches to help you build your skills without injury. Every week from March through October, our Club Coach hosts track workouts for runners of every age and level of ability.
In addition to being a running Club, we also host some of your FAVORITE events with a rich history behind them! Our SRC 10 Mile Run to the Blue Point Brewery, USATF 50K Championship and Heckscher 25K Runs, Aspire 10K, David Lerner Police Appreciation 5K Run, Greenbelt 25K & 50K Trail Runs, Runner's Edge Long Island Women's Run, Rob's Run 5K (cross country), Kings Park 15K, Ocean to Sound Relay, Ho Ho Ho Holiday 5K Run, TOBAY Supervisor’s Run 5K, fun runs, trail runs, and MORE all make for a full calendar of activities throughout the year. In addition, we have been hired to manage the Marcum Workplace Challenge, Heart & Sole 5K, and the Blazing Trails 4 Autism 4 Mile Run.
Most of all, GLIRC offers you a HOME. We are welcoming of EVERYONE, and when you see a sea of black and yellow, you know that you'll be surrounded by friendly people to run with and with whom to compare notes. We support each other and cheer everyone on to inspire rewarding running experiences. No matter what your age or ability, whether you are a mile a day beginner or a veteran marathoner, there's a place for YOU in the Greater Long Island Running Club!
