Join Team London at the 2024 Sarcoma Stomp!
This year's theme is "We Are The Voices of Hope!" We recognize how vital your support has been in bringing hope to those affected by sarcoma, a rare cancer that affects the bone and connective tissues. Around 16,000 people are diagnosed annually in the US alone, and the need for funding is critical.
Event Goals:
Raise Awareness: Sarcoma's warning signs aren't universal, and its causes are largely unknown.
Increase Funding: All proceeds will benefit The Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research, supporting local research at Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children's Hospital. Nearly $4 million has been raised since 2010, funding crucial clinical trials and studies.
Microtheme Essay by London Secor:
Waking up in an empty white room at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, I was enveloped by bare walls and artificial light. My memory was distant, and opening my eyes was a struggle. A year ago, I saw my father cry for the first time, shattering my childhood notion that adults don't cry. Diagnosed with Undifferentiated Round Cell Sarcoma Cancer, I realized that cancer could move anyone to tears.
Despite the sterile surroundings and the loneliness of the hospital, the moment my mother entered the room, her smile and the smell of her coffee were enough to let my tears fall. Those moments of pure love and security are what I cling to, amidst the painful memories.
Now, I cherish every moment, asking questions, taking photos, and creating art, realizing that one of life's biggest regrets could be not appreciating what you have until it's gone.
