Team AUAB,
On the night of April 27, 2014 devastation struck many families in the towns of Mayflower and Vilonia Arkansas. It was almost 3 years to date since the last tornado ripped through these towns. The tornado itself was a half mile wide and traveled an 80 mile path. There have been many heroic stories to report, lives lost and many lives that will take years to recover.
Just to touch on a few of the stories. April and Daniel Smith were both at home with their two sons (Tyler and Cameron). They did what all of us in the "tornado alley" do; they hid in the bathtub with the mattress over the top. Unfortunately, it was not enough that day and both of the sons perished as both of the parents were critically injured. MSgt Wassom (AF ANG); who had also sought protection with his family; took a fatal blow from debris shielding his daughter.
All in all the death toll has reached 15 lives lost. In the initial assessments they have had 710 home effected and of those 328 homes are destroyed. Lives changed....again.
I am organizing this Run for Relief to help raise funds to give to Arkansas Strong, the local Red Cross, to try and help offset some of these costs. To help families rebuild. To help families recover. The run is set for 31 May 2014 with a start time of 1830. Please donate and come out to support! Thank you TEAM!
