The first 800 runners to register (either for the Mile or 5K) will receive finisher medals. This will be determined by bibs assigned (Freedom 5K/Independent Mile bibs which will be 1-800 vs RunningLane bib. Those who sign up for the bundle will only receive 1 finisher medal, not 2.) Depending on how many bibs are not picked up will determine how many RunningLane bibs will receive finisher medals.
Also friendly reminder, that the first 700 registrations for the 5K or the 5K + 1 Mile bundle, will be guaranteed Freedom 5K singlets. We will have an additional 200 RunningLane singlets for those who register for the 5K or 5K + 1 Mile bundle in case we run out of Freedom singlets!
Come Celebrate America's Independence with the all new Freedom 5K and back from its 9 year hiatus the Independence Mile!
The 5K and 1 Mile will start and finish at beautiful Big Spring Park in downtown Huntsville. Both courses will be USATF Certified courses as well as Sanctioned events. We're excited to make this the premier July 4th race in the Tennessee Valley taking you through the beautiful streets of Downtown Huntsville as well as Old Town.

Calling all volunteers! We always need fantastic volunteers and we have a volunteer program to help save you some dough. Volunteers who work a 5 hour shift will receive free entry into a future RunningLane Event 1/2 Marathon distance and shorter. Volunteers who work (2) 5 hour shifts or (1) 8+ hour shift will receive free entry into a future RL Event 50 Miler and down OR (2) races 1/2 marathon and down. There are no refunds, credits, deferrals or friend/ family transfers on entries. We do not mail shirts or medals to participants unable to make the event as left over shirts are donated.
Awards
Awards will take place at 9:15 AM.
Awards TBD - both the 5k and 1 mile will have awards.
Age group awards will be top 3 in each AG: 0-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+
We will also have free balloon twisters for the kids at the race as well as free face painting!

RACE DAY Packet Pickup. We STRONGLY encourage everyone to pick up your packets if at all possible on Wednesday. That said, we will have packet pickup race morning from 6:00am - 6:45am near the start finish line on Church Street (near this address: 200 Church St SW, Huntsville, AL 35801). Please note the race will start at 7am sharp!
Race singlets are for the 5K and 5K + 1 Mile bundle only. Those who register for the mile only will not receive a race singlet. Singlets are guaranteed for the first 700 runners who register.
