CYCLING ETIQUETTE & SAFETY
As we prepare for our upcoming cycling event, we want to remind everyone of the importance of safety. While we've designed the routes to include as many bike paths and trails as possible, there are sections where you will be sharing the road with vehicles.
Please exercise caution, follow all traffic laws, and stay alert, especially when sharing the road with vehicles. Road conditions may vary throughout the ride. Pay extra attention to uneven road surfaces, branches or stones in the road, storm drains, etc. Roads are not closed. This means you are FOLLOWING ALL THE RULES OF THE ROAD. This includes stopping at all stop signs, red lights, and yielding to traffic. Your safety is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
KEY POINTS:
- Announce your passes clearly. Use a friendly bell ring or call out "passing on your left" well in advance.
- Pass with ample space. Be aware of traffic and any other possible hazards on the road. Don't squeeze by in a hurry. THIS IS NOT A RACE.
- Maintain a safe speed. Adjust your speed based on traffic and road conditions.
- Ride single file. This is especially important on narrow sections or when passing.
- Be predictable. Signal turns well in advance and avoid sudden maneuvers.
- You MUST WEAR A HELMET to participate. If we notice anyone not wearing a helmet, we will instruct you not to ride. Ultimately, you are riding at your own risk.
Remember: We're all out there to enjoy the ride. By following these simple tips, we can create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone on the road.
NOTE TO E-BIKE RIDERS:
We're happy you're joining us. Please remember to be extra courteous to other participants. Due to your motor assist, maintain a safe passing distance and always signal clearly. Be mindful of your speed, especially when passing or riding in groups. Your consideration helps ensure a safe and enjoyable ride for everyone. Thanks!
