The Salvation Army has served the Napa Valley since 1884, filling the needs of struggling families and individuals. In 2016, The Salvation Army created the Napa Valley Culinary Training Academy in collaboration with the Culinary Institute of America. The goal was to give those grappling with homelessness and substance abuse, a chance to reenter the workforce and to succeed in the renowned culinary industry around them. The Napa Valley Culinary Training Academy has a 100 percent success rate in helping graduates find jobs and maintain sobriety. From March 2020 to March 2021, they served 160,000 meals to wildfire survivors and those forced inside by the pandemic. The culinary students also prepare daily meals for those experiencing homelessness. The Napa Valley Culinary Training Academy provides students with the opportunity of a lifetime. It’s a chance to start over, reclaim their lives and find a higher purpose, all in the service of others.
