Race Information
The Wildcat Mountain Trail Races showcase some of the most scenic terrain in the HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Area, giving runners a true taste of the rolling hills, open views, and natural beauty surrounding Wildcat Mountain. Each fall, participants take on two distances—a 10-mile and a 10K—designed to highlight the area’s unique, beautiful trails.
The race begins at the Douglas County East/West Trailhead at Rocky Heights Middle School and follows the E/W Trail into the Backcountry, linking directly into the Wildcat Mountain trails.
Adult registration includes:
- Dry-fit race t-shirt
- Custom race bib
- Custom finisher medal
- Pancake breakfast from Flippin' Flapjacks
- Post-race beers compliments of Living the Dream Brewing
Kids’ Races
Race day will end with a series of untimed, just-for-fun kids’ races, giving young runners an easy and exciting way to be part of race day. Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming introduction to trail running, and these short races offer the perfect opportunity for kids ages 0–12 to get involved. Registration is only $10, and every participant receives a finisher medal.
Distances vary by age to ensure a fun and manageable experience for all: Ages 2–4 run approximately 0.25 miles, Ages 5–7 run about 0.62 miles, Ages 8–10 take on roughly 1 mile, and Ages 11–12 complete a 2-mile course.
Kids' registration includes:

- Custom finisher medal
Course Description
The Wildcat Mountain 10K | 10M Trail Race features 100% dirt trails, rolling terrain, and wide-open mountain views. Runners may also spot wildlife as they move through the Backcountry Wilderness Area.
Weather & Trail Conditions
October trail running can mean mud, snow, or ice—and we welcome it all. The race will take place in rain, shine, sleet, or snow. However, if excessive moisture makes the trails unsafe or inaccessible, the event may be postponed to protect participants and the Backcountry.
Aid Stations & Hydration
Aid stations will be available on course and stocked with water. To support trail stewardship and follow Leave No Trace principles, runners are strongly encouraged to bring their own hydration system to reduce waste.
Safety & Restrictions
For the safety of participants and local wildlife, dogs and strollers are not permitted on the course.
