Description

2024 RACE DAY DETAILS:

Hello Turkey Trotters. Welcome to our 2024 Thanksgiving Day event, a race that has become one of our community's greatest Thanksgiving traditions. This race/fun run/walk has proven to be such a special day for friends, families and visitors and benefits the Steamboat Springs High School Track & Field and Cross Country programs. The Turkey Trot is a 5K course that starts and ends at Steamboat Springs High School, traveling to beautiful Strawberry Park and back. Dress in your cold weather running gear or even a Thanksgiving Day costume.

We have a few reminders in preparation of a fantastic race day. WE ARE STEAMBOAT…….and love to play in the winter snow. So that is just what we will do! Let’s bundle up, wear shoes with traction (for snow or ice) and have a blast!

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO WEDNESDAY AND RACE DAY PACKET PICKUP/REGISTRATION

NO WEDNESDAY PACKET PICKUP - Due to the winter storm, our timer has been delayed in arriving in Steamboat with race bibs and chips until Wednesday night. We WILL NOT have packet pick up on Wednesday but will instead start promptly at 8:00am (at the high school) at Thursday and will have multiple stations set up for a smooth packet pickup process. PLEASE DO PLAN TO ARRIVE BETWEEN 8:00- 9:00am in order to pick up bibs and get to the start line.

Online registration will stay open through Wednesday evening and race day registration will be open at 8am at the high school. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that anyone who can register by Wednesday night, does so. For anyone registering day of, please bring your own personal device to register online. Thank you!

Great news - We will now be giving Buffs to Youth (age 11-17) and Adults(18+) combined, for the first 400 athletes who registered online. Those will be available when you pick up your bibs on Thursday morning. .

RACE START: 9:30am with Opening Ceremony a few minutes prior.

IMPORTANT REMINDER ON COURSE - We are so thankful to have the support of the City of Steamboat Springs and Routt County to put on this fantastic event. For safety and to honor our permit guidelines, it is very important that ALL RACERS follow pedestrian guidelines when on course for safety. The course is OPEN to all traffic, so please stay on the left side of the road, on the shoulder going towards the turn around and then cross over to the left side on the return. We will have police support at the intersection of Maple and Amethyst, a lead biker and rolling car support. Nonetheless, THE ROADS ARE OPEN to moving traffic. Thank you!!!

Donations:

LIft Up Food Bank - Non-perishable food donations will be accepted on site for Lift Up Food Bank! A bin will be located near the finish line.

Bataan Death March charitable effort: Our race will be offering a charitable contribution to this memorial. During World War II, on April 9, 1942, 75,000 United States soldiers and Filipino soldiers were surrendered to Japanese forces after months of battling in extreme-climate conditions. The U.S. soldiers were from the multiple branches of the U.S. military: Army, Army Air Corps, Navy, and Marines. Among those seized were members of the 200th Coast Artillery, New Mexico National Guard. Each year this event is held at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and now hosts close to 10,000 participants. Marchers participate in the Bataan Memorial Death March for many reasons: personal challenge, the spirit of competition, or to foster esprit de corps in their unit. Some march in honor of a family member or a particular veteran who was in the Bataan Death March or who was taken as a prisoner of war by the Japanese in the Philippines.

Ukraine Relief Efforts: Our race director and her husband, Lisa Renee and Doug have traveled to Ukraine 5 times since the full scale invasion occurred and will be returning in February. We would like to accept donations to help with humanitarian relief right immediately (and have proper channels to send), to help the Ukrainian people endure brutal winter conditions, with limited power and water supplies.

If you are interested in bringing a donation on race day to either cause, every dollar will be allocated to the cause. You may either bring cash, write a check to Steamboat Track and Field or make a donation on the race site. Thank you!!
