Description

RIVER RUN 5K

The fourth annual New Milford River Run 5K, a New Milford RiverFest event, will take participants along a USATF-certified course (CT18028JHP) following the Housatonic River on Young's Field Road to Boardman Road and back Oct. 5. The course has minimal turns and little elevation change. Come on out and strive for a new personal best while enjoying the beauty and charm of New England on a late fall afternoon (4:30 p.m. start). Walkers are welcome, too. Medals and prizes will be presented on stage at 5:45 p.m. After, grab a bite to eat, listen to live music and enjoy other offerings. iRunCT will provide timing. The Ostomy Foundation is the organizer of the event.

Performance shirts and swag will be given to the first 100 registrants.

Registration available online only.

BENEFITTING NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION

The Ostomy Foundation is a New Milford 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that educates, supports, mentors and empowers ostomates, family members, caregivers and others within the ostomy community.
Reasons for ostomy surgery (the surgical creation of a new temporary or permanent opening in the abdominal wall to reroute the path for waste to exit the body) may be, but are not limited to, cancer, ulcerative colitis (UC), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s Disease, birth defects and many other medical conditions.
Through support networks, speaking engagements, social media and community programs, the organization provides tools that encourage a positive ostomy experience.
The foundation also advocates for client rights and strives to eliminate misconceptions and stereotypes related to ostomies that exist for ostomates and in the public.

The non-profit works with clients of all ages and from all stages of illness. This includes pre-op and immediate post-op care, and those who seek long-term assistance for continuing education and emotional support. The number of ostomates are increasing due to earlier detection and advances in medicine.

FOR MORE INFORMATION, CALL THE FOUNDATION AT 475-209-2404.
