About Techbridge Girls
Techbridge Girls is an award-winning leader and innovator in informal STEM education. Their mission is to excite, educate, and equip girls from low-income communities by delivering high quality, culturally relevant STEM programming that empowers a girl to achieve economic mobility and better life chances.
How?
Techbridge Girls creates strategic partnerships with Title 1-eligible schools and nonprofits to enact "pathways" for girls in elementary through high school. The FANtastic 5k will support Techbridge Girls at Amidon-Bowen Elementary and Jefferson Middle School Academy in Southwest, DC. The elementary school pathway, INSPIRE, focuses on introducing girls to several disciplines of STEM through hands-on activities and visits from career women. CHANGEMAKERS, the middle school pathway provides girls with technical/soft skills needed to succeed in STEM while continuing to expose them to different careers with role models and field trips.
Examples of Techbridge Girls Activities:
- Designing an app to reduce bullying
- Building a "smart" water bottle
- Learning chemical engineering by creating lip balms
