Why Penguins?
Emperor penguins are threatened with extinction due to a warming world. Penguin scientist, Dr. Michelle LaRue at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand is working with a team to learn more about how emperor penguins spend their time. We are hosting this event to raise donations for SPLASH tags- a type of tracking device that helps scientists understand where emperor penguins forage for food in the ocean and when they are raising their chicks. Science equipment is expensive, one SPLASH tag is $3,000! Our goal is to raise enough money to hit our $3,000 goal for at least one SPLASH tag, can we get 100 penguin lovers to start pedaling?
