10TH RBVFC FIRE FIGHTIN' 5K RUN/WALK

Donation Goal: $2,500

In the early 1980’s the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company became concerned with the development along the Coastal Highway corridor, and because of that concern they started looking into the idea for a sub-station out here.
In 1985 the company rented an old air plane hangar at the Rehoboth Airport across the road from where we are now.  They put an engine and a field truck in that hangar.  The equipment was only kept there in the warm weather because there was no heat.  After several years, the company was fortunate enough to receive a donated piece of ground from the heirs of the Dodd Estate and a used airplane hangar from Mr. Bert Flickenger.  That hangar is still part of the original station 2 directly behind this new station.

As the area continued to grow, Station 2 grew with it.  It got to the point where Station 2 was not large enough nor could it handle the growth.  In 2005 we started researching the idea of a new station that could handle the growth and provide space for the future.

We broke ground at this site on October 16, 2013 and dedicated the new station 2 on Saturday May 16, 2015.

This new fire station will meet the demands for emergency services for now and into the future.  The station is designed with crew quarters, bunk rooms, lounge areas, a kitchen, office space and facilities to improve on daily operations.

Also included in the new station is the ability to handle a major emergency with a command staff area.  There is a room designed to become a multi-agency command area.  In the event of a major emergency, like a hurricane, this building can be transformed into that command center.  State Police, DEMA, Deldot, National Guard or any other agency could use this facility for centralized command.  We hope that never happens but we are prepared if it does.

We want to commend the planning and work that when into this building.  This facility will be able to handle our needs for now and into the future.

Without your contributions we would not be able to provide the continued high level of service that our residents and visitors expect.

Thank you from the Officers and Members of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company for your continued financial support.
