About Us :
Founded in 2018, Epic-Cure® is a 100% volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the primary mission of ending food waste and food insecurity, particularly among the most underserved communities in NE Florida. Since inception (December 2018), Epic-Cure has rescued and distributed more than 15.5 million pounds of food (primarily fresh produce, meat, and dairy) to the food insecure, with a zero waste model. Epic-Cure undertakes a holistic approach to the multifaceted problems surrounding food waste and food insecurity, emphasizing:
(1) environmental solutions: keeping food out of landfills where it would otherwise emit harmful greenhouse gases, especially methane;
(2) the choice method of free food distributions to reduce food waste and preserve the dignity of our volunteers and beneficiaries;
(3) education through nutrition and skill centered cooking classes for Title 1 school children, active military, and veterans suffering physical and mental health ramifications of their service. Epic-Cure is partnered with the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Centerstone and the 5 Star Veterans Center to teach life skills and potential career paths, and provide both self-reliance and a chance to rise above current, difficult economic, social, health, and mental circumstances;
(4) medical attention: medical clinic personnel on site for medical screenings, vaccines, and nutrition advice with Flagler Health+, Flagler Care Connect+, and the Wildflower Clinic; and
(5) emergency response as the emergency food responder for Feeding Northeast Florida and a preferred partner of FEMA.
