This year's event is by donation only: nothing is required to participate, but we suggest a minimum donation of $10/participant.
Financial Disclosure: this race has become more than just a great team event we all look forward to each year; it has become a fundraiser as well. All funds collected will go to local charities. Neither the race committee nor Somerville Road Runners will retain any of the funds collected.
Funds collected will be distributed in the following ways:
- First, funds collected will be allocated to the charities this event has historically supported at the same level as last year. This means that the first $2600 collected will go to: Back on My Feet-Boston & WalkBoston.
- Second, funds will be allocated to the team prize fund which will be capped at $1500 to be split among the top 3 teams (50%-33%-17%). Each of the top 3 teams will nominate a local charity* for their portion of the prize. Provided that this nomination aligns with the specification in the disclaimer below, the 26 X 1 Race Committee/Somerville Road Runners Board will then make a donation on behalf of that team to the charity which they nominated. *Disclaimer: These funds are intended to help those in need. Although we do not anticipate this being necessary, the Somerville Road Runners Board reserves the right to redirect funds if the integrity of this goal is not upheld. In this case, the funds will be added to the third allocation (see below).
- Third, if the funds collected completely fulfill the specifications for our first and second allocations, all remaining funds will be split equally between Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund and Somerville Homeless Coalition.
Our race charities:
---------------
WalkBoston’s mission is to make walking safer and easier in Massachusetts to encourage better health, a cleaner environment and more vibrant communities. WalkBoston was founded in 1990 as the first non-profit pedestrian advocacy group in the country. Today, we work in 120+ communities throughout Massachusetts. Our efforts span local, regional, and state levels, and we collaborate with a host of organizations to effect change including neighborhood and community groups, transportation firms, and city and state governments, which all help make communities safer for runners.
Back on My Feet (BoMF) is a national non-profit operating in cities across the US. We use running, community support and essential employment and housing resources to transform lives.
Somerville Homeless Coalition’s mission is to provide homeless and near homeless individuals and families with individualized supportive services and tailored housing solutions with a goal of obtaining and maintaining affordable housing.
Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund supports those across the state most impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis, focusing on essential frontline workers and vulnerable populations including the homeless, immigrant populations, people with disabilities and those facing food insecurity. Launched by First Lady Lauren Baker and the One8 Foundation along with the support of generous donors, Eastern Bank, the Foundation for Business Equity, and The Boston Foundation, the Fund works in concert with regional community foundations and non-profit leaders who partner with local leaders to understand the response and relief landscape, strategically filling in where gaps are pronounced.
