George Capron Memorial Fund: Honoring a Man Who Went Above And Beyond For His Community

In honor of his consistent and good-hearted involvement with so many different things within the community, the Boonville Herald, the Lost Trail Snowmobile Club and we here at the Flack Broadcasting Group have all joined together to create the George Capron Memorial Fund.

With the blessing of his family, the fund has a goal of granting a cash award to a graduating student of Adirondack Central School, who is pursuing an interest of communications, journalism or weather related sciences. School staff members will select a student each year who displays character of community involvement, a positive attitude and good will towards others.

“George Capron was not only a longtime member of Lost Trail Snowmobile Club, but also a very active one,” said Betty Haig, former longtime officer of the Club.

There are many not just around Boonville, but across the entire North Country and even beyond who grew up listening to George, a voice that was comforting, re-assuring and one you could count on nearly every single day you woke up. “In his 55 years on the radio station, he has read birth announcements, anniversaries, birthdays and obituaries of members of just about every family in the area. A memorial scholarship in George's name is a fitting way to honor such a fine man,” said WBRV/WLLG owner Bill Flack.

For those who read the local paper, George spent many hours at the Boonville Herald proof reading and publishing his weekly column, which recapped anniversaries, birthdays and significant weather notes. “George was a big and important part of the Boonville Herald family. He is missed everyday. He was a big and important part of the Boonville community,” said former publisher/owner Joe Kelly.

Anyone who would like to help in this goal of furthering George’s memory may do so by contributing to the fund. You can donate to the George Capron Memorial Fund, c/o Community Bank, 101 Main Street, Boonville, NY 13309.
