Description
This is a virtual run/walk to help us feel like we are a part of a team in supporting the Jefferson Lighthouse School’s PTA even though we are social distancing. Participants can select their own course and complete it at any time prior to April 30th, 2020. (The end of online schooling in Wisconsin as of April 5th.) Jefferson Lighthouse PTA provides support for so many activities for our students! We will be using the IB (International Baccalaureate) characteristic of principled in reporting completion. Finishers can choose to receive a custom finisher’s medal and/or T-Shirt (from Racine’s own We Make T-Shirts!) You can also add an extra donation to the JLS PTA on the registration page! The lighthouse design was selected to represent our own city (where a lot of us are spending much more time lately) as well as the beacon of security a lighthouse offers. -How long is a 5k?
A 5k is just over 3 miles. (3.107 to be exact.)
-How do I measure my 5k?
Most phones have some sort of tracking if you prefer to map out a course before hand, I recommend the US Track and Field Map It tool. If you go to a 400 meter track (such as at a high school,) it will be a little over 12 laps. You can also likely google “running routes” in your area and some options will come up. Use contact us if you have any other questions about the event.
Did I win?
You are winning by advancing your fitness in completing this activity! As this is self paced and tracked there will be no official awards.
Can I drive my 5k?
-The intent is to run or walk your course (or roll if you use a wheelchair)!
When will my shirt and medal arrive?
Packets have a planned ship date of early to late May.
-I selected an add-on item, what is an approximate cost breakdown?
Items were priced to cover production, postage, and transportation to the post office with an additional amount going to the JLS PTA.
-I have a fundraising idea. Who can help me?
I received the seed money from Thrivent, a fraternal organization to which I belong.
-How can I be sure the money is going to the JLS PTA?
I plan to post a “mock check” picture on social media presenting the check to the JLS president mid-late May 2020.
-Who can participate?
This is a virtual race to be completed using proper social distancing but is open to everyone in the US! Challenge your friends and relatives all over the US and connect via social media to celebrate completion!
