Pass the Hope Family Fun Run

Pass the Hope is not a traditional road race, but rather a social distancing-style family relay run. The purpose is to enjoy exercising in our community while raising funds for Hope Vibes, a powerful nonprofit in Charlotte helping protect the homeless from the pandemic and other health challenges. Your registration (or your donation) is tax deductible.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The total distance will depend on how many families register (aiming for at least 20 families, which would be 20 miles). How amazing would it be if we reached 40 families?! Each participating family runs just a 1 mile leg -- the exact route and specific start time will be assigned a few days before the run. Times will be assigned in 10 minute increments. Prizes will be given to the family who has the most participants, and the family that creates the coolest Hope Vibes baton.

IS IT SAFE?
Families will run on sidewalks and only a few families will need to cross streets that involve a stoplight. To direct runners on their route and to protect them when crossing streets, the Hope Vibes truck and two bicyclists in Hope Vibes attire will serve as escorts.

REQUIREMENTS

One registration per family. All ages, strollers, scooters, and abilities are welcome. At least one person per family is the minimum (there is no maximum). Sign up by May 6th. No badges or packets are needed, but your family will need to make a homemade baton (e.g. cardboard from a paper towel roll) so that you can "tap" the family before you who is finishing at your start line and then tap the next family starting at your finish line, like the Olympics style relay race.

EVENT TIMING & LOCATION

MAY 9, 2020 starting at 9:00am. Your specific start time will depend on your start location (which will be based roughly on your home address). The first family will start at a parking lot in Myers Park, tap their baton to the next family, and so on, and the last family will likely finish near Carmel Middle School. Your running time will not be recorded but you are expected to complete your 1 mile in less than 10 or 11 minutes in order to keep the run on pace for other families' expectations.

If the weather forecast calls for rain, the event will be rescheduled.
