SaxEn Scholarship 5K (kid's 800m + 1.5 mile walk)

This race is named after Mike Shannon and Jeff Matson who both took 2nd (2 different years) at the State Cross Country meet. The race will follow the traditional 5K Bush Park course (that was once the site of the State Cross Country meet- a very long time ago). All ages and genders are welcome to race the 5K.

The 800 is named after Gracey Pankey who won the 800m at the State Track and Field meet in the early '90's! (Gracey won the 400 the following year)! The race will follow the grass loop around the lower field at Bush Park. All children under the age of 10 are welcome to run the 800.

Adam's Ribs will cater a BBQ lunch in the park following the 5K. They will offer pulled pork and brisket sandwiches, with 3 sides. Pre-registration required. Limited to the first 150 registrants. Only $5!

For years my teams and I did a parents relay race, and a walk option. In that tradition, I am offering a 1.5 walk starting at 9:30. You will start at the traditional start line and walk past the tennis courts to the Kelsy Oldham loop and on to the traditional finish line. The Willamette Valley Road Runner's Kelsy Oldham Scholarship is a benefactor of the SaxEn Scholarship event (I am the scholarship chairperson). This is not a timed event. Great Harvest goodies will be given to the top 10 finishers of the walk (per tradition)! Stick around and cheer for the 5K and 800m participants!
