Dr. Spino Kids Day

Welcome to the inaugural 5K race to celebrate our relationship and experience with Westmoreland County's Dr. P. Spino, MD. A Proclamation setting April 24 as Dr. Spino Day in Westmoreland County was wonderfully set forth by our County Commissioners. This day of events with the races stand to establish Mindful Mentoring activities in Westmoreland County and beyond. The course at Hempfield Park is level and surfaced.

Our 2 K Rabbit Race is for youth of all ages! Children set off. There are safe spaces on the course. Adults (foxes) follow in a jog in small groups. Adults cannot stop. So, Rabbits have to continue and make their way when it is safe. All Rabbits can finish if they want to run the race for finishing. If they run it for finishing first, that is a strategy too, but foxes are running too! A new set of foxes leaves every few minutes until the Rabbits reach the finish-line, the foxes finish out, or maybe a rabbit and fox do connect and they can finish the race together. Runners of the 5 K can use this race as an additional cool off.
